BLEW STOP SIGN AND INFLICTED SERIOUS INJURIES TO ELDERLY COUPLE

SUDLERSVILLE, MD. — Why would two law-abiding possible citizens who blew a stop sign and crashed into an elderly couple decide to beat feet before the cops showed up?  Is it possible they feared being arrested for DUI and then found to be illegal aliens?

Maryland State Police report that on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at approximately 6:30 pm, troopers assigned to the Maryland State Police – Centreville Barrack responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving (2) vehicles, at the intersection of Maryland Route 300 and Maryland Route 290, Sudlersville, Maryland. Upon arrival, troopers located a heavily damaged, 2009 Honda Accord, bearing Maryland registration 3BC5402.

Both occupants were trapped and suffering serious injuries. The second vehicle involved was a heavily damaged, 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, bearing Mississippi registration JQF240. According to witnesses at the scene, both Hispanic male occupants of the Malibu exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, with unknown injuries. Based on the serious nature of injuries and age of the occupants, MSP Trooper 1 responded to transport them to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Additionally, MSP K9 -24 responded to conduct a track in an attempt to locate the fleeing suspects. Maryland State Police – Crash Team and SHA also responded.

Police say that their preliminary investigation revealed, the Honda Accord was traveling eastbound Route 300, when the Chevy Malibu, traveling southbound Route 290 failed to stop at the intersection stop sign and collided with the Honda. This caused both elderly occupants of the Honda to become entrapped. At the time of this writing, 84-year-old driver-Richard Alan Coleman is listed as critical but stable and 80-year-old passenger-Dorothy Elizabeth Coleman is listed as serious but stable. Additional evidence at the scene determined that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision. The roadway was closed and traffic diverted for approximately 4 hours. All events occurred in Queen Anne’s County.

LAPD Officer Edgar Omar Verduzco charged with roasting family of three DUI manslaughter

UPDATE:

From KTLA
The Los Angeles police officer who had been arrested following a deadly crash in which alcohol possibly played a role was released from custody on Thursday, according to inmate records.

It was not immediately clear Thursday evening whether the Calfornia Highway Patrol planned to file a warrant for Verduzco’s arrest. The agency is continuing to investigate the collision and said they are awaiting blood test results.Edgar Verduzco, 26, left Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles around 5:10 p.m. due to insufficient grounds to file charges, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department inmate database shows.

Earlier in the day, Officer Al Perez with the California Highway Patrol — which is investigating the incident — told KTLA the agency had not yet submitted a formal complaint to the District Attorney’s office and did not expect to before the 48-hour deadline for holding prisoners without a warrant.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Verduzco was assigned to his home with pay as the investigation continues.

He had been arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Los Angeles Police Officer Edgar Verduzco charged with roasting to death family of three in DUI crash

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer is suspected of driving drunk and causing a three-car crash on the 605 Freeway on Tuesday night, killing a Riverside couple and their son when they could not exit their burning car.

The suspect, 26-year-old Edgar Omar Verduzco of Santa Ana, suffered a broken nose.

Verduzco was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Armando Perdomo. The CHP is handling the criminal investigation.

CHP Officer Al Perez said Verduzco appeared to have been drinking. He identified Verduzco as an LAPD officer.

Perez said a couple and their teenage son died in the 10:15 p.m. crash on the southbound 605 Freeway, south of Saragosa Street, in the unincorporated community of  West Whittier.

But Riverside Unified School District officials identified the young man killed as an employee, as well as a former student, of the district.

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that one of the victims of that crash was a graduate of John W. North High School and was serving as an RUSD employee before the accident, tutoring AVID students at his alma mater,” RUSD spokesman Justin Grayson said in a written statement. “Sadly, the two other victims of the crash were the parents of that former student.”

Grief counselors were sent to North High School as soon as officials learned of the former student’s death, Grayson said.

“On behalf of the RUSD Board of Education, our superintendent, and the entire RUSD family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this tragedy. There will always be an unfillable void left in our hearts when we lose a beloved member of our RUSD team,” he said.

Maribel, Mario and Oscar Davila killed by boozing LA cop Sept. 27, 2017

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck spoke at a press conference Wednesday. “My heart goes out to the victims and the families. And I cannot tell you how angry and disappointed I am that a Los Angeles police officer would disregard the law and cause an accident with such awful, awful consequences.”

Beck said the department takes alcohol abuse, particularly driving under the influence, very seriously. The LAPD has opened an administrative investigation.

Josh Rubenstein, a spokesman for the LAPD, said Verduzco worked the front desk at Central Division in downtown Los Angeles.

Beck described Verduzco’s two years with the LAPD as unremarkable. Before joining the department, he said Verduzco served in the U.S. Army for almost four years. including in Afghanistan.

Beck said he believed the officer was on his day off Tuesday.

CHP Officer Gersain Chavez said in a statement that Verduzco was driving his 2016 Chevy Camaro and speeding in the carpool lane of the southbound 605 Freeway Tuesday night. He said the Camaro rear-ended a Nissan in the No. 1 lane and a Scion in the No. 2 lane.

Chief Beck Statement Regarding Fatal Freeway Crash of DUI Officer Killing Family of Three

LA Police Chief Charlie Beck

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department has learned that one of its off-duty police officers was involved in a traffic accident on the 605 Freeway late last night, that resulted in the tragic death of three people. According to the California Highway Patrol, who is investigating the crash, our officer was arrested for suspicion of DUI. The Department sends its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims in this horrific collision. The LAPD has initiated an administrative investigation and will work with the CHP as they continue their investigation, however, the Department has no tolerance for driving under the influence and holds its officers to the highest standards of professionalism both on and off-duty. The LAPD understands the significant danger innocent drivers face when any person gets behind the wheel while they are impaired, which is why we conduct random sobriety checks throughout the City. It is particularly troubling when one of our own police officers violates drunk driving laws, which is why a drunk driving offense always results in a personnel complaint which can lead to dismissal. In instances where nobody has been injured, employees often receive suspension days and employees sign a contract in which an individual will submit to randomized testing, treatment programs, and abstinence from alcohol as a condition of continued employment.

Road Rage Incident Ends With Arrest of Joseph Biacan for DUI and Nicole Jacobson for Assaulting Troopers

Indiana State Police traffic stop

According to Indiana State Police, a Maryland man who is wanted for failing to appear in court in that state is now under arrest for DUI and his passenger is behind bars for assaulting several Indiana troopers.

Police report that on Oct. 10, 2017, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Indiana State Police Regional Dispatch received a report of a road rage incident between two drivers on I-65 near the 215-mile marker (Rensselaer Exit) in Jasper County.  Police say that the vehicles continued on I-65 northbound and exited at exit 230 (Roselawn/Demotte) where Master Trooper Glen Fifield observed the TrailBlazer following the complainant’s vehicle at an unsafe distance.  A traffic stop was initiated by M/Trooper Fifield on the suspect vehicle at the intersection of I-65 and S.R. 10.  Troopers Paul Arnold and Master Trooper Lionel Douglas also assisted in the traffic stop. Preliminary investigation by Trooper Arnold revealed that the driver, Joseph Biacan, of Derwood, Maryland, had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.  Numerous open containers of alcohol were also observed in the vehicle.  Trooper Arnold administered several field sobriety tests and a portable breath test at the scene.  A certified breath test was also later administered with a result of .09% blood alcohol content.

While at the scene of the traffic stop and prior to the field sobriety tests, a female passenger in the TrailBlazer, later identified as Nicole A. Jacobson, 30, of Waianae, Hawaii, was asked for identification as well as a statement as to the road rage incident.  During this interaction with Troopers, Jacobson became combative and uncooperative.  Troopers also detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on her breath as well as having observed open containers in her lap and on the floorboard of the car.  During questioning by Trooper Arnold, Jacobson started to stumble into traffic and wasn’t cooperating with verbal commands.  Trooper Arnold attempted to handcuff Jacobson when she became combative with him and other Troopers.  Jacobson began to kick and hit Troopers during the arrest.

While re-securing her in the police car, she kicked a troopers hand as it was rested against the door, but he was not injured.

While sitting in a police car, Jacobson attempted to remove the handcuffs and kick the dash of the police car.  While re-securing her in the police car, she kicked a troopers hand as it was rested against the door, but he was not injured.  An ambulance was called to the scene for a welfare check due to Jacobson’s high level of intoxication as well as her stating to officers that she was pregnant.

Jacobson was transported to Franciscan Health in Rensselaer where she was medically cleared for incarceration at the Jasper County Jail.  While at the jail, Jacobson physically assaulted a corrections officer during the booking process.  Jacobson is being charged with two counts of Battery on Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony), 1 count of Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor) and Public Intoxication (B Misdemeanor).  Joseph Biacan was also incarcerated at the Jasper County Jail and charged with Operating While Intoxicated (A misdemeanor).

Joseph Biacan, of 4900 McCall Street, Rockville, Md., is wanted on an open warrant in Montgomery County, Md., for violating a peace order filed in District Court on Aug. 8, 2017. Biacan was due in Court in Rockville, Md., on July 30, 2017.

Biacan was arrested by Montgomery County, Md., Police Officer Eddie Alesich on May 28, 2014, at 9:20 pm for driving while impaired on 16254 Frederick Road in a 1996 Chevy. On Oct. 14, 2014, Montgomery County States Attorney John McCarthy dropped the charges.

David Jon Blackmon Charged with Running Over Spectator with Stolen Honey Wagon Truck

Vehicle Theft/DUII/Assault at Hood to Coast Birkenfeld

David Jon Blackmon, of Bend, Oregon, was involved in the theft of a pickup Columbia County Sheriff Ore Aug 26 2017

According to the Columbia County Sheriff, a 36-year-old Hood to Coast Runner is in custody this morning following the theft of a vehicle that led to UUMV, DUII and Assault charges (among others) at one of the event’s exchanges in Columbia County.

Police say that on 8/26/17, at about 2 am,  a suspect that race participants identified as HTC Runner  David Jon Blackmon, of Bend, Oregon, was involved in the theft of a pickup belonging to a portable restroom company that was servicing its portable units at Exchange 24 in the Birkenfeld area.

The vehicle didn’t go far, however.

Witnesses said Blackmon proceeded to drive the stolen pickup through a nearby field where runners were resting. Three of the resting runners were able to jump out of the way of the vehicle, Cynthia Gillespie of Canby, Oregon,  was not able to do so and was run over and dragged a short distance, before the truck stopped, resting on her leg.

The original driver of the vehicle confronted Blackmon after chasing the vehicle down. Blackmon reportedly ran into the woods nearby, fleeing the scene.

Oregon State Police responded to assist the deputy, as did a K9 from Beaverton Police Department. The K9 located Blackmon in the woods nearby, detaining him. Once Blackmon was identified by the truck’s assigned driver, he was taken into custody and lodged in the Columbia County Jail on charges of Assault-Second Degree, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Driving while Revoked, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

Gillespie was transported to OHSU, where she was treated and reported later to be released with only minor injuries.

Burn to Death in Wreck

ST. CHARLES, Illinois —  10/11/2017 — According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, a Geneva man is facing felony Reckless Homicide and Aggravated DUI charges in connection with a fiery crash that killed his passenger last week near St. Charles.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Raphael Peruzza of Eldorado Dr. in Geneva was arrested over the weekend after his release from Delnor Hospital.

Nineteen-year-old Nicholas Daniel Hanson of Husking Peg Ln. in Geneva was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Friday, where he was a passenger in the vehicle being driven by Peruzza.

FROM WSPY

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. on Friday morning to a traffic crash with injuries on Burr Rd. south of Hawkins Ln. in unincorporated St. Charles Township.

The investigation indicated that Peruzza was traveling south on Burr Rd. For an unknown reason, his vehicle left the roadway and flipped eventually coming to a rest in a tree line on the east side of Burr Rd.

Prior to the arrival of deputies, Peruzza had been able to exit the vehicle; however, the vehicle was on fire.

After the fire was extinguished, Hanson was found deceased inside the vehicle. Peruzza was transported to Delnor Hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries, prior to his release.

Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said that due to the nature of the crash, Hanson’s body was initially unidentifiable, prior to toxicology samples being sent off.   MORE

In one moment your decision changes lives. Decatur High School (Federal Way, WA) students Nicholas Hodgins and Derek King were killed alongside I-5 when a driver made the decision to drive drunk. They would have graduated in three days.

Carlos Edilberto Flores-Benitez, 27, is facing charges for felony hit and run Raleigh NC Wake County Oct. 6, 2017

RALEIGH, N.C.(10/14/2017) — A Raleigh man was cornered by witnesses and kept in his vehicle until he was arrested by police following a hit-and-run crash Oct. 6, 2017, according to Wake County court documents and a Raleigh police report.

Carlos Edilberto Flores-Benitez, 27, is facing charges for felony hit/run resulting in injury, driving while impaired, and possession of an open container of alcohol in the passenger area of a vehicle.

The charges come following his arrest on Thursday evening after Raleigh Police and witnesses say a man was “run over” and seriously injured by Flores-Benitez.

According to a police report and court documents, Flores-Benitez is accused of hitting a man at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road and then leaving the scene.

When police arrived on the scene, the 27-year-old was cornered in his vehicle and trapped in the car by witnesses.

The report shows that witnesses to the incident told police they had “run [the suspect] down.” When police arrived on the scene, the 27-year-old was cornered in his vehicle and trapped in the car by witnesses. The keys were still in the ignition.

Flores-Benitez had “red glassy eyes, slurred speech,” according to the report. The suspect admitted to police that he had been drinking and an open container of alcohol was found on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. He had a 0.17 BAC, more than twice the legal limit, the report shows.

Flores-Benitez has an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement hold on him.

The victim suffered “serious injuries, but he’s not gonna die,” police wrote in the report.
